American Indian Town

The American Indian Town exhibit at Roanoke Island Festival Park offers an immersive look into Coastal Algonquian culture as it existed during the late 16th century. Modeled after villages explored by English settlers, the exhibit features longhouses, agricultural areas, and work shelters along winding paths. Visitors can engage with interactive displays, help build a longhouse, and learn about early American Indian–English relations. Hands-on activities include farming techniques, rope making, basket weaving, net mending, food prep, hide tanning, boat building, and more, all centered around a ceremonial dance circle.

"We are history buffs and enjoyed the exhibits here very much. The outdoor exhibits were well done, with informative displays and engaging interpreters. The indoor museum and film were also excellent. This is an attraction that both adults and kids would enjoy--and its setting was very enjoyable for us. So glad we visited!" - Ellen B.
