Roanoke Island Commission Members
The Roanoke Island Commission protects, preserves, develops and interprets the historical and cultural assets of Roanoke Island. The Commission oversees Roanoke Island Festival Park, which commemorates the Roanoke Voyages that occurred from 1584 to 1587 and subsequent Outer Banks history. Roanoke Island Festival Park also serves as producer of performing and visual arts programming. Members of the Commission serve on one of four committees - the Elizabeth II Committee, the Maritime History Committee, the Visual and Performing Arts Committee or the Roanoke Voyages Corridor Committee. The Commission is made up of 24 members, six appointed by the Governor, six by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and six by the Speaker of the House. Six additional members are designees of the Town of Manteo, Dare County, Department of Transportation, Department of Cultural Resources, the Attorney General and the Governor. Members serve two-year terms.
