Settlement Site

Tour the Settlement Site

The Settlement Site at Roanoke Island Festival Park brings the 1585 English military colony to life with costumed interpreters demonstrating daily life from the Roanoke Voyage. Visitors can watch blacksmiths at work, try traditional woodworking, play Elizabethan games, explore canvas tents, try on armor, and even practice English accents. Seasonal features include shade from coastal trees in summer and warm campfires in cooler months. The site offers a hands-on, immersive glimpse into the lives of the first English settlers in North America.

Woodworking

"My kids enjoyed the settlement exhibit the best. The blacksmith was amazing and very good with kids and the other gentleman with the wood working tools really let my kids get into it. He even let my son Logan do a demonstration for a group of people! Really enjoyed our visit!" - Lora W. from Austintown, OH
