Bloody Mary and the Virgin Queen

The musical comedy Bloody Mary and the Virgin Queen will return to the Indoor Theatre at Roanoke Island Festival Park on August 3,4, and 5, at 2:00 p.m. The admission price is included in the general admission ticket to the park or free to Friends of Elizabeth II.

The production stars Miss Barbara Hird as Queen Elizabeth I, Marsha Booth Warren as Queen Mary, and Terry Edwards as the tour guide. Originally from Yorkshire, England, Miss Hird studied and performed at the Bradford Playhouse and Film Theater. She was also a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest civilian honor in North Carolina, for her work in Elizabeth R. Her versatile background includes theater, film, and television. Marsha Booth Warren studied music and vocal performance at Queen’s College and does opera and musical theater with companies in North Carolina and Virginia.

The award winning play takes a comical modern-day look at England’s Queen Elizabeth I and her sister, Queen Mary. It literally brings the rival sisters back to life as the “Virgin Queen” and “Bloody Mary” rise from their slumberous tombs. In this fifty minute production, the queen sisters engage in bickering and taunting that will enlighten the audience to the history of their tumultuous relationship with each other. The stage also becomes their post-mortem playground as they play games, sing, and joke. The production of Bloody Mary and the Virgin Queen gives a humorous look at two key participants of England’s history.
